Distribution Future Energy Scenarios
When Northern Powergrid joined us as a sponsor in mid-2019, our first project together was focused on Distribution Future Energy Scenarios (DFES). A DFES is an outline of potential future events (expected or unexpected) built around the scenarios defined in the National Grid Future Energy Scenarios. The 'Community Renewables' scenario, for example, assumes that people will adopt electric transport early and that there is strong support for renewable energy generation like solar panels and wind generation.
Northern Powergrid were interested in exploring several things relating to DFES - visualising it in a way that was more engaging than a 100+ page report; allowing users to interrogate the underlying data through the visualisation; and creating a data standard for DFES that others could use, allowing for greater collaboration between companies like Northern Powergrid and public-facing bodies like local authorities.
